What are common non-surgical foot and ankle medical procedures?

The field of medicine continues to advance every day. Many serious medical conditions, which once required surgery, can now be treated effectively using non-surgical medical techniques. Our New York orthopedic foot surgeons are well aware of the latest, most advanced medical procedures when it comes to foot and ankle injuries. Information about some of these procedures can be found below.

It isn’t just what we know that matters. It’s how we treat each patient. We never take a one-size-fits-all approach. We always take the time to properly diagnose exactly what’s wrong with you. That way, we can create a treatment plan perfectly suited for your specific medical needs.

We also understand the urgency of diagnosing exactly what’s wrong with your foot or ankle. That’s why all of our offices have advanced diagnostic equipment, including an MRI machine in each office. That way, you won’t have to wait or race around from one office to another. Instead, you can receive all your medical treatments in one, convenient location, in most cases.

What is platelet rich plasma therapy?

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy can be a very effective way to treat serious foot or ankle injuries. Our blood naturally contains platelets, which play an important role in promoting healing in our body. PRP therapy simply involves dramatically increasing the number of platelets in our blood.

PRP therapy involves removing blood from a patient, separating out the platelets and then injecting the platelet-rich blood back into the patient. Platelet rich plasma therapy can help alleviate pain in the foot or ankles, promote healing and may even help delay ankle joint replacement surgery.

We don’t perform PRP therapy at this time, but we would be glad to discuss all procedures with you and recommend you to a PRP specialist, if necessary.

These exercises include:

  • Ball rolling with your feet
  • Calf raises
  • Heel cord stretches

  • Toe writing (writing the alphabet in the air with your injured foot)
  • Towel stretches with your feet
